ABOUT THE BOOK

Tony Cahill is at the top of his game as the starting kicker for the Scranton Sparrows. A crushing hit places him on the injured list, but even worse is the news of his grandfather’s passing. If that isn’t enough, his grandmother shares her desire to move back home to Sweet Grove but she is hiding something.

Once they reach Sweet Grove he is surprised by his usually healthy grandmother’s decline. Meagan Rowe, his grandmother’s new nurse/companion is an unexpected pleasure. She is the only woman with the ability to take his breath away when he’s in her presence. He can’t help but be drawn to her no matter how many miles will soon separate them. Though she seems a little young and overqualified as a support care worker, her energy and zest for life makes her perfect for his grandmother.

Meagan Rowe has lived in Sweet Grove for most of her life. It was a place of refuge after the death of her twin brother. Her brother’s terminal illness influenced her decision to become a nurse practitioner. For years it was the only career that made sense, both to her heart and for her family’s decimated budget. She loves helping people whom others have given up hope on but has begun to wonder if her chosen path is just a way to keep her brother close.

Imagine her distress when she discovers that the handsome and charming grandson of the sweet woman she cares for is on the Upton Foundation’s board of directors. The same foundation that denied her family the financial help needed to take care of her brother as they felt he deserved.

Will hard feelings and a heartbreaking secret sideline this budding romance?

About Jackie Ladbury

Jackie Ladbury was desperate to become a journalist when she left school but was ousted within minutes on the day of the exam at her local rag because she’d forgotten to bring a pen.

Short and sharp lesson learned.

Her budding writing career was not on hold for long, though, as Jackie found herself scribbling love stories of pilots and ‘hosties’ while she flew in aeroplanes of various shapes and sizes as a flight attendant herself.

Fast forward a good few years and, after being short-listed in a couple of prestigious romantic writing competitions, Jackie decided it was time to discard her stilettos, say goodbye to the skies and concentrate on writing romantic novels, where the only given is a guaranteed ‘happy ever after.’

Gloria’s Song book review

Published January 23, 2017 by francesothomas

gloria

Kathryn Albright’s Gloria’s Song was such a lovely book.  Well-heeled Gloria has a dilemma. She is expected to wed a rich man who can give her anything in the world except the thing that means the most to her, music.  As a musician myself, I could easily relate to how empty such a life without music would be for Gloria. I also could perfectly understand her powerful attraction to Colin, the hard-working young man from the wrong side of the tracks who is hired to tutor her for an audition that has the potential to make her dreams come true.

Albright humanized Gloria by showing her initial dismay when she realized that, despite her training, she had less innate musicality than did self-taught Colin. That observation is quite realistic. Some lucky souls are blessed in that way. That Gloria did not let jealousy consume her speaks to her character.

How difficult it must have been for young women in the time period in which this book is set to buck the conventions of their time. Following one’s passion’ however, is never out of date.

The Sale of Woodhouse Glass release

The Sale of Woodhouse Glass

by K.J. Watters

GENRE: Contemporary Romance (sweet)

The author will be awarding a $25 Amazon or B/N GC to a randomly drawn winner via rafflecopter during the tour.

BLURB:

“Touching and intelligent, The Sale of Woodhouse Glass isn’t your ordinary romance. Kali Woodhouse is a widowed mother-of-two who spends her days running her deceased husband’s business, Woodhouse Glass, and flirting with the town police officer, who is exactly right for her in every way. He’s certainly a better choice than the bad-boy, screw-up she’s known since childhood, and who just so happens to need a job and has the necessary skills for Woodhouse Glass.

“No, this isn’t the generic storyline you’ve seen before with flat characters who play their roles according to the formula. Watters eschews cliche and instead tells a touching story about love, loss, family, and finding happiness again after tragedy.”

-Author of “Someone Else’s Fairytale” E.M. Tippetts

Excerpt:

“Hey, look at you in street clothes…You look tall. I mean good. You look good. Although not very detective-ish.” She’d blurted out her first thought to keep from staring, and she immediately regretted it. Hoping to come off as playful rather than unfiltered, she paired her words with a gentle tap to his shoulder with the back of her hand.

Parker chuckled, his broad smile and perfect teeth reinforcing the magazine-worthy image. “Well, thanks, but that was supposed to be my line. You look pretty good yourself. Beautiful, actually.” He paused long enough for her to blush. “Are you all ready?”

“Yep. I forgot how quickly I can get myself ready when it’s just me. You have no idea how much work it is to leave the house with kids. Getting everyone in shoes that match and fit seems like it should be easy, but I’m not kidding when I say that it takes half of our morning every single day.”

Please stop talking, she begged herself, turning to lock her door and trying to collect her thoughts—or at least shut her mouth.

“Huh. That’s probably why my sister-in-law keeps her kids’ shoes in the car. She and my brother have two kids about the same ages as yours. Two boys.” Parker led her to the silver SUV in the driveway and opened the passenger door. As he walked around to the driver’s side, Kali focused intently on buckling her seatbelt, an exercise in appearing to be a normal, stable, person.

“I was wondering if I was going to get to ride in a police cruiser tonight, but I guess I won’t get to cross that one off my bucket list.” Kali heard her voice again, nervously jabbering against her will.

Parker didn’t seem to mind following her rambling conversation. “I don’t drive it home. But I could probably arrange a ride if it means that much to you. A bucket list item is a big deal.”

“Well, maybe my list is too long. It also has ‘grow a prize-winning pumpkin,’ ‘fold a thousand paper cranes,’ and ‘catch a seagull.’” Luckily, Kali’s imagination kept pace with her mouth.

“I might need to rethink my list. I’m really not sure how I could have overlooked those.”
