Never Judge a Lady by Her Cover

Published November 26, 2014 by francesothomas

I promised the folks at Avon that I would post a review today, the release date of Sarah MacLean’s fourth book in her Rule of Scoundrels series. Alas, a nasty case of bronchitis infringed on my reading time. It is perilously difficult to try to cough and read at the same time.

i have been reading Never Judge a Lady by Her Cover all day, so I wouldn’t miss my deadline. Not surprisingly, I quite enjoyed it as I had the earlier three novels.

What one might have supposed would be the hero of the book turns out to be the heroine. Or rather, two heroines. Lady Georgiana has not one, but two alter egos. One of them is the fourth owner of the gaming hell, the Fallen Angel.

Newspaperman Duncan West is observant enough to put two and two together and quickly realizes the lady and the madam are one and the same. It is that third identity that eludes him and causes him to be jealous of a man who doesn’t exist.

The protagonists need the wisdom of a precocious nine-year old to help them sort out what they really need in life from what they only think they need.

KissCon launching on West Coast

Published October 23, 2014 by francesothomas

I often wish I lived on the West Coast. Now I have kiss two more reasons. Avon is launching new events called KissCon.

What does KissCon entail? A group of Avon authors will be doing a signing, a Q&A, and fun, interactive events with the audience. There will be prizes and raffles. Authors attending each event will vary slightly. Attendance is free, unless you spring for a VIP ticket—which gets you in to an exclusive reception with the authors, as well as one of the featured authors’ books.

Maybe I will finish one of my own romance novels in time to be featured at a Florida KissCon someday.  Anyway, here are the locations:

KissCon Seattle (at Copperfield’s Books in San Rafael, CA, Saturday, 11/22):

Avon Books and Copperfield’s San Rafael are joining forces to bring romance readers the very first KissCon (an Avon Affair!) on November 22, 2014.  There will be a special limited-attendance VIP event, and a larger public event.  We are encouraging readers to reserve tickets for both!

Featured authors include: Ilona Andrews, Elizabeth Boyle, Rachel Gibson, Laura Kaye, TJ Kline, Julie Anne Long, Sarah MacLean, Cathy Maxwell,Jennifer Ryan and Lori Wilde.

In the name of science

Published November 26, 2012 by francesothomas

As someone whose eyesight leaves a lot to be desired, I always enjoy a heroine who wears glasses. The very scientific and bespectacled Lady Phillippa in Sarah MacLean’s One Good Earl Deserves a Lover embarks on a quest for knowledge a fortnight before her wedding. Instead of one of her four sisters, she seeks out a notorious rake in an equally notorious gaming hell. And instead of said rake rescuing her, she channels George Clooney to rescue him. Oh, yes, she learns a lot about anatomy along the way too.
