Elephantine Publishing seeking authors, bloggers, and interns

Elephantine Publishing has put out a call for new authors. Amanda Aksel and Heather Hildenbrand are looking for Young Adult contemp that deals with hard issues, YA PNR, New Adult contemp/paranormal, and Women’s Fiction.

They are also looking for bloggers to join their team and review books and share covers. In addition, they are seeking interns to contribute 2-5 hours per week. In exchange, they will:

  1. Learn the publishing industry (whether its marketing or the literary development side) from the inside
  2. Build their resumes so that you can use their time as a stepping stone to more opportunities
  3. Have the unique opportunity to work one on one with an innovative new business model

According to their pr material, while sharing marketing tips and discussing cover art, independent authors Amanda Aksel and Heather Hildenbrand came to the same conclusion; wouldn’t it be great if there was a publishing house that offered all the resources of traditional publishing, while still allowing the creative freedom of independent publishing? They set out to create their vision, and Elephantine was born.

They refer to Elephantine as a collaborative publisher. Their goal is to partner with authors to turn a love of writing into a successful career for years to come. They work side by side with authors through every step of the publishing process to create a unique and professional title to share with the world. Using strategic marketing, Elephantine provides their authors with industry tools and resources to build readership and grow sales.

Submission guidelines are on Elephantine’s website. Potential interns should submit a resume to  elephantinepublishing@gmail.com.

Perception

To make up for my boo boo yesterday, I hurriedly read this anthology of short stories today. The publisher is billing it as New Adult. Technically, I guess it does fit into the definition. Most of the protagonists are in that age group. But if these stories are an accurate reflection of what it means to be a New Adult, I’m glad I’m an Old Adult.

Don’t get me wrong. All of the stories are well-written; however, the plots are dark. The characters are vividly drawn but nobody I’d want to know.

That said, readers who gobble up gritty reality will certainly find it here.

Perception is everything, they say. It’s true.

Perception release

My life is just a teensy bit out of control right now. I completely missed posting a promised review of Elephantine’s newest release, Perception. This is a New Adult anthology featuring works by Linda Davis, Scott Davis, Nealy Gihan, and Mary Laufer. Mea culpa, but I promise I’ll review this book at a later date.

In the meantime, here’s the cover.

Whisper release

Whisper by Heather Hildenbrand

New Adult Paranormal Fantasy

The Cherokee believe when a person dies, their soul is reborn. Life is repeated. An endless cycle of lessons to be learned, love to be found, destiny to be fulfilled. For the past six months, in every flower, every bird, I’ve imagined my parents, relieved of their human forms.

Now, after five months at the Skye View Wellness Center, it was summer. A time for parties and friends, but that’s the last thing I want to do. So when my best friend Erin convinces me to attend a bonfire at Eagle Point, I can’t handle the crowd full of sympathetic stares or drunken class clowns who would use my tragedy as a way into my heart – or my pants. The solitude of the woods offers an escape, until I stumble upon a boy, unconscious and bleeding, his pockets stuffed not with identification but with poetry illustrating the beauty of dying. I’ve seen enough death. I will not leave this boy’s side.

Even after he wakes, when the only thing he can remember are visions of events that haven’t happened yet…

About the Author:

Author of Across the Galaxy, Whisper, and the Dirty Blood series. I write, read, and fuss at my kids. Oh, and I do laundry, lots of laundry. I’m pretty good at it, too. Sometimes I even read WHILE doing laundry – and fussing at my kids. I’m a multi-tasker.

For more information on my books, release dates, or just general stalker material, um, I mean FAN material, visit my website. www.heatherhildenbrand.blogspot.com. I love hearing from readers!

Likes and dislikes? I love vintage tees, hate socks with sandals, and if my house was on fire the one thing I’d grab is my Amazon Fire TV! (oh yeah, I’m a fan of puns.)

The world will never look the same…

There comes a defining moment in every young person’s life that irrevocably shifts their point of view. For a new teacher who still compares herself to her students, it’s a missing girl and a false accusation that could cost her more than her career. For a young man who settles into a rut that not even his broken marriage can pull him out of, it’s a drifter’s gun to his head. For an idealistic college student, it’s her parents’ divorce pulling back the curtain on who they really are, shattering everything she thought she knew about love. And for a recovering addict who’s not ready to change, it might just be an unhappy ending to her illicit affair.

In Perception, discover five captivating stories that explore what it means to be a new adult.
